Marriage tops prayer lists

Life in the miracle world: By Malita Wamala

Yes, among other things, we go to church for spouses. Is that a bad thing? There is so much hullabaloo about so and so getting saved because she wants a husband urgently, or the other one needs a wife.

One of the leading causes of frustrations in this world is failed relationships and marriages. As it is today, we tend to turn back to God unfortunately when things go wrong. Of course there are exceptions, but when many born-again Christians tell you how they ended up with salvation, it begins with a very grim picture.

The first time I visited a Pentecostal pastor in town with a little shove from a friend, it was to seek counselling. With a heap of frustration from a faltering relationship, I broke down before this stranger and wept my story to the end. She counselled me for two hours, free of charge, then told me about Christ. When I walked out, I had a spring in my step and decided on that day to commit to Christ.

In church, we learn how important it is to the devil that as many Christians as possible do not get married, but instead fornicate and sire children all over the countryside. So, in any place with a big born-again congregation, prayers for marriage partners are said fervently.
