AT least 16 women were massacred when the "Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels"
rounded them up in Patongo internally displaced people's (IDP) camp in Agago county,
Pader district.

Security sources said the women had returned to their abandoned villages to look for
mangoes for their children.

Other sources said the rebels killed 20 people in Paimol, also in Agago, during the
same period.

The northern intelligence officer, Lt. Col. Charles Otema-Awany, on Wednesday said he
had not received information about the massacre.

The army recently cautioned civilians against leaving the camps, saying there was no
security in the abandoned villages.
