THE African Union security and peace chief, Said Djinnit, has hailed the people of
Teso for their determination to fight the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels.
Addressing Teso leaders in Soroti during his tour of Gulu and Soroti districts on
Tuesday, Djinnit urged other people in Africa to emulate the Itesot in fighting
terrorism.
Djinnit was on a fact-finding mission on the state of affairs of the northern war.
"I'm moved by your achievement in defeating the rebels. I encourage other countries to
emulate your example as we rally behind Pan Africanism to preserve peace," Djinnit
said.
Military Intelligence chief Col. Noble Mayombo (above) said Djinnit came to identify
with the victims of the northern war and to find a way of complementing Government
efforts against terrorism.
Mayombo hailed the Arrow group for their contribution towards fighting terrorism in
Uganda.

In February defence minister Amama Mbabazi said the African Union would establish a
continental force, the African Standby Force, to fight terrorism because it was a big
problem in Africa.
Mbabazi said Kony was the first target and that Uganda would push to have the force
deployed against the LRA as soon as it was fully established in July.
