In the light of the slurs and attacks aimed at the AU, CARICOM and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) over their initial positions opposing the coup against Haiti which the AU branded as "unconstitutional"; the continuing revelations about the genoicide in the Great Lakes area, and the general oppression against Africans across the globe, it is important that Pan-Africanists and true African nationalists work even harder to clarify the current political-economic circumstances affecting our individual and collective quality of life.

If I might make a few suggestions of things we might consider:

1. Respond to the AU call for input on their Vision and Mission, note in particular this phrase "The Chairperson of the Commission places them at the disposal of the public at large, of all Africans including those in the diaspora, in order to inform them and to gather their views. "

Vision & Mission
of the African Union

Following the various Brainstorming sessions on the vision of the African Union (AU) for the 21st Century, the AU Commission has prepared two(2) documents " Vision of the African Union and the Mission of the Commission of the African Union and the Strategic Framework of the AU Commission ".

The Chairperson of the Commission places them at the disposal of the public at large, of all Africans including those in the diaspora, in order to inform them and to gather their views.

2. Defend and support the elements of CARICOM who are staunch in defense of African dignity; and to encourage them not to be intimidated by the likes of the Condoleeza Rice woman, Colin Powell and this Roger Noriega thug.  We should encourage CARICOM to make sure that their pledge that they
âreiterated their commitment to the people of Haiti and their intention to remain constructively engaged in the efforts to create the conditions considered necessary for their long-term safety, well-being and progress.â has a real and substantive positive affect on the condition of our people in Haiti; and that their plans for further consolidation and integration are not hijacked by external forces, and internal thugs such as Gerard Latortue.  We must encourage CARICOM to speed up the process of intensifying its relationship with revolutionary Cuba. We must do all we can to support Cuba's commitment to aid the people of Haiti.

3.  We must not allow the CBC to be villified and subjected to false criticisms by puppet groups such as Project 21, who have emerged as the leading spokespersons denouncing the CBC's support of the people of Haiti. The CBC has to hold firm to the few positive initiatives they have started or embraced. In this regard it would be useful to get former Rep. Cynthia McKinney back in Congress, a valiant, clear voice against exploitation and oppression.  As you recall she was a consistent positive gadfly on the subject of the genoicide in the Great Lakes, the war waged against the people of the Congo, the peculiar circumstances surrounding 9/11 and the general situation in the mid-east, the systematic and systemic racial oppression in the UK, as well as combatting the steady erosion of the quality of life of our people, and of the general citizenry, here in the US  (Her website is:
www.cynthiaforcongress.com); and to encourage others such as former Rep. Earl Hilliard to increase their visibility.  With the recognition of Libya's potential for positive contribution to the global society, the attacks that were leveled against Hilliard ring more hollow than ever. People such as McKinney and Hilliard should be the model for the whole CBC.

These few things, are just some of the steps we can take ... but the important thing is that we do not allow the opportunity to advance our struggle that the current affairs, positive and negative, has presented us.  I thank you for your time.
