FOUR Britons, among them a woman, have been arrested over a stolen Uganda flag from Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

The four were reportedly arrested at 4:00am on Thursday.

It is not clear at what stage they were nabbed or from which part of the hotel the flag, one of the most treasured national symbols, was stolen.

Kampala Police chief Benson Oyo Nyeko confirmed the arrest but declined to disclose the identity of the suspects.

They will appear in court tomorrow (today) on the charges of theft, Nyeko said.
Upon their arrest, the four where taken to Kampala Central Police Station where they were held for a greater part of the day as detectives interrogated them before releasing them on Police bond.

The flag that comprises six equal horizontal bands of black (from top), yellow, red, black, yellow and red, has a white disk superimposed at the centre with a a red crested crane (the national symbol) facing the hoist side.

The flag was adopted on October 9, 1962, on the day Uganda attained her independence.
