UGANDA 18/6/2004 11:59 KONY CHANGES HIS NAME AND MOCKS MISSIONARIES Church/Religious Affairs, Brief The bloodthirsty leader of the self-defined LRA (Lordæ Resistance Army), the armed rebel movement active in northern Uganda for 18 years, has decided to change his name: for some time now, the rebel chief has insisted on being called æayomcwiny? meaning something along the lines of æiver that laughs? or æhe happy one? on the frequencies of the radios stolen from missions and private homes during raids. æith this move, Kony intends to mock the missionaries present in Uganda, letting them know that he only has reason to be pleased, and telling them using stolen radios on the frequencies normally used by the missionaries to communicate,?a Ugandan religious source who prefers to remain anonymous for safety reasons told MISNA. His close aides have also changed their names, in particular giving themselves military ranks. æhis phenomenon is emerging in coincidence with the adoption by the LRA rebels of a strangely arrogant mode of behaviour; the rebels used to launch their attacks or move around at night, under cover of darkness.
