I was not promised post, says Oulanyah

PARLIAMENT � The new Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee chairman, Omoro County MP, Jacob Oulanyah, on Friday dismissed speculation that the government had compromised him. He said he had not been compromised because he sought the chair of the committee during recess. �It is not something that abruptly came up. It is a decision I consciously took,� he said. He said he has never lobbied to be a minister. Oulanyah said he would not answer to speculation that the office of the Attorney General would be awarded to him as a �gift�. �I am a member of the Uganda People�s Congress. The Movement is ending. How can I defect to the NRM-O? I was nurtured in UPC,� he said. �There is the Uganda Law Society. Judges in this country and the Law Development Centre. We can consult them,� he said. There has been speculation in Parliament, that Oulanyah was the Movement-backed candidate and had been promised a ministerial post. Many MPs who are lawyers withdrew from contesting for the committee. They accused the government of campaigning for Movement sycophants. |
