Here in Minister Nsaba-Butulo's response, I would assume, to the vice-
president's message (Included below). Who of them is talking for the
government?!! Could the minister, a confessed born-again christian, be using
his office to fight the main-stream churches?

Monday, 21 June 2004Information Minister Dr. James Nsaba Buturo (left) has
warned the Uganda joint Christian council (UJCC) against their declaration to
fight the 3rd term bid for President Museveni. Minister Nsaba Buturo argues
that it is sad for the church to participate in the political transition of the
country since they are supposed to be spiritual leaders far above politics.
However, Nsaba Buturo hastened to add that the Church Leaders do not have the
mandate of the public. His remarks are however contrary to Prof. Gilbert
Bukenyas surprise change of heart despite being of the same political
affiliation. The Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya in a message read for him
by Capt. Francis Babu in Naguru on Sunday that the church has an important role
to play in the political transition of the country. Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala,
the Popes representative Christopher Pierre among other clergy were present
when Minister Babu delivered Prof. Bukenyas message.

Monday, 21 June 2004Government is to consider the churchs views on the
political transition while drawing the transition Roadmap. The Vice President
Prof. Gilbert Bukenya says that government has been cognoscenti of the remarks
religious leader on the political transition. He said this in a speech read for
him by Kampala Central Division MP and Housing Minister Hon. Francis Babu at
Our Lady and St. Jude Church Naguru parish golden Jubilee celebrations. He says
that the church has an important role in the social, Economic and political
development of Uganda. He adds that the Church should freely participate in
the selection of leaders and deliberation of policies that affect the Nation.
Meanwhile Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala has described as Ignorant Born Again
