THE Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Rt. Rev. Henry Luke Orombi, has appealed
for an end to the vicious cycle of violence and war in parts of north and
north-eastern Uganda.
"For the people in those regions, peace is a dream. They did not ask for war or
violence. The majority of them are living in pain and trauma. They need our prayers,"
Orombi said.
He was on Thursday officiating at the opening of a counselling workshop for the youth
at Lweza Training and Conference Centre.
The five-day workshop is being attended by participants from Uganda, Sudan and the
Democratic Republic of Congo. It was organised by the Youth for Christ, a
Christian-founded NGO.
Orombi said people in war-torn areas were in need of counselling to help them cope
with the difficulties of their lives.

"They need people to listen to their grievances. I believe after this training, you
will play the role of sympathetic listeners. Pray with them because prayers will give
hope for life," he said.
Vivian Kityo, the national director for YFC, said the training was aimed at showing
people how to reach out to the youth and offer Christian counselling to those in need
of encouragement.
