The Ugandan rebels of the LRA (lordë Resistance Army) attacked the small village of Moti, 65km south-east of Juba, main city of South Sudan, resulting in the death of around 40 people. The episode was reported by the Ugandan press, specifying that the rebels conducted the attack on Friday morning and that the victims included seven combatants of the SPLA (Sudan Peopleë Liberation Army), historic rebel movement protagonist of a two-decade war against the Islamic government of Khartoum. Since the times of war, and still today in attendance of peace that should follow the accords signed by the sides in the past months, the SPLA represents the authority in a large part of South Sudan. Another armed Sudanese group present in the area, the EDF (Equator Defence Force), referred that the LRA rebels acted with support from the Sudan government forces. Since 1986 the LRA rebels have caused death and destruction in the northern districts of Uganda, so far resulting in the death of over 100,000 people, abduction of 25,000 minors and displacement of over 1-million (1,500,000 according to other sources).
