KAMPALA At 84, former President Godfrey Binaisa is a new man with a new thrill. Binaisa declared yesterday that he is deeply in love with a Japanese executive of an American corporation. I am sharp. I am smart. And I move very fast, Binaisa told The Monitor at his Muyenga house yesterday.

That house will soon become a home: the ex-president last week married Ms Yamamoto in a wedding conducted via a satellite link. Not only does she like me, she loves me; and I love her too, he said, with a beaming face like a teenager falling in love for the first time. I am absolutely thrilled. I have no complaints at all.

Yamamoto, 58, is set to join Binaisa in Uganda next month. He said she lives in Columbus-Ohio, USA. News of Binaisas wedding was broken by Health Minister Mike Mukula, while at a press function at Lugogo.

When The Monitor asked Binaisa, he confirmed excitedly: Of course!
Later, from his spacious, but largely bare living room, he said he met Yamamoto at an Inter-Religious Conference in Seoul, South Korea, last week.
On July 26, they reportedly wedded before a congregation of the Unification Church in Seoul.

They have not met physically, but they talked a lot on phone for the six days he was in Seoul. He could not recall her first name, but that has not dampened Binaisas excitement.

His first wife, Irene, died a year-and-a-half ago. The new one, Binaisa said, is looking forward to seeing this beautiful country. Said the ex-president: She will arrive in style.

Asked about the reaction of his family, Binaisa said everyone was very supportive of his new love: They support me whole-heartedly. They welcome her with both hands.

Binaisas late father, Cannon Anania Binaisa, captured national imagination when he married a 56-year-old woman at an advanced age of 98.
