Fellow Ugandans

It is these times when we again get into the troubled times of UNAA, an organization we (as Ugandans abroad) started to se that we can be organized abroad to face our troubled settling in these two huge nations, namely Canada and United States. For the record this organization was started as a non partisan organization but an organization where every Ugandan can fit. Because we are in exile, we begged our host nations to allow us to register this organization so that we can attack our problems whether family, child pregnancies, HIV/AIDS, finding jobs, racial discrimination, housing, you name it.

Those of you who have stayed long in these forums remember when I had a huge problem when  Dr. Muniini Mulera hijacked this organization and handed it to NRM in Kampala. Yes they were the darkest days of UNAA for the organizations going to Uganda for a conference was against any common sense reasoning that has today proved to be a very uncommon asset in the UNAA management. Dr. Munini Mulera took the organization to a Uganda president, a man who ran the government that has made Ugandans ran out of their nation than Iddi Amin and Milton Obote Combined. In all the postings I did at that time, no single Ugandan stood on his/her feet to support our call that UNAA does not belong to NRM it belongs to Ugandans in exile with their families. Record Must show that Dr Muniini Mulera handed UNAA to the NRM government up and until whenNRM refused to give him either a ministerial post of Health or the ambassadorial post in Ottawa. Dr. Munini Mulera switched to support Kiiza Besigye.

Having given you the back ground. It has amassed me that UNAA leadership to today is still going through the same crap. For the record Anne Mugisha you have no right to complain or even address the convention, for UNAA is not a political organization. In fact on the basis we started UNAA. we are supposed to discuss problems into our communities as Ugandans, and Uganda's political situation is a no go. For if you want to be a part of Uganda process you go to Uganda, we are here for this is our home. And that is why UNAA is being funded by state and federal governments of both Canada and United States and not by Uganda government.

As a member of the first meeting in Toronto, I wonder who the hell is Andrew. Andrew even gets on his high horse and threatens the entire UNAA leadership that they risk being misunderstood, Andrew is giving the leadership a  chance that he is going to talk to the presidential aids to gauge the feeling. Am I understanding you Mr. Andrew? Is State House these days running UNAA? And if the feeling in the Presidential aids is not favorable so what?

No Andrew these questions are not yours, you most likely are in Kampala and this organization came kneeling to you for access to state house and Museveni licking their asses so that they can get money and appointments from NRM. Ugandans are very narrow minded people and we are very short of critical thinkers. Anne Mugisha did not know that Mulera's taking UNAA to Uganda was a disaster up and until when she is refused entry today. If when I started to fight Mulera's selling of UNAA to NRM Ugandans had backed me up, if Anne Mugisha was behind me, this exchange below would have not taken place.

But we as Ugandans work not for the future of our nation and our children, not in Uganda not abroad, we work for a daily bread. And Anne Mugisha at that time felt better to eat in Museveni's hands up and until when she decided to stop being atonalistic and going Reform for it is a party or an organization led by a fellow Mukiga. The leaders of UNAA you should be very ashamed for you betrayed us as a society, and this organization has no where to go but in the drain and you will complain on attendance until when it will become more of a Ugandan organization than an NRM one. Just for the record it is only UNAA which is an organization addressed by a president of where the refugees ran from. Just make sure that any incoming president will address this entity as Museveni has. For you know what we have many presidents coming and going.

And with this posting, may the leadership of UNAA in Canada be informed that I will send a note to my MP so that I do not continue to pay my taxes to support an organization working to please a  government that makes me a refugee, it is just plainly stupid.

And to all Ugandans in exile, and those who had great expectations from UNAA, one sentence only, I told you.

Listers,

As you may have heard, the Organizing Committee of UNAA Seattle Convention has succumbed to pressure to remove me from their list of presenters in Seattle on the basis of a story published by the Red Pepper tabloid in Kampala.  The paper alleges that I intend to abuse the President and pelt rotten eggs at him during his visit to Seattle next month.  Here is the email from the former President of Uganda Law Society, Andrew Kasirye (also one of Museveni's numerous private lawyers); which incited the Convention Organizers to throw me out.  This is a man who taught me the law at LDC by the way...Where are the human rights lawyers when you need them?  Is everyone in Museveni's pockets?
All this because I decided to organize a peaceful demonstration to concide with the presence of Mr. Museveni at the Convention!  The word peaceful demonstration is self explanatory but apparently the extremists on the organizing committee who have denied me my right to be heard on this
matter and a chance to define "peaceful demonstration" to them, are apparently afraid of allowing a lunatic loose on the President.  Mind you six months ago when they invited me and gave me a spot on the panel they were aware that I was an opposition politician worthy of their fine Convention and not a politcal looney.  Now things have changed.  Museveni is coming and drastic measures have been taken to silence a single voice, one individual; in order to drown out serious opposition or what they prefer to call embarassement to the President.

I do not know to what length UNAA will go to silence me.  At first I was told that they were throwing me off their panel because they were financing me and did not want to be said to be financing a demonstration.  I agreed with them and immediately paid for my registration and reserved my accommodation.  But this was not enough to assuage the Musevenists.  Now that the President is coming to UNAA and I have decided to demonstrate, I am no longer welcome on their panel.

The good news is that even if the detractors throw me off their panel and even if they decided to throw me out of their Convention altogether the one thing that they cannot do is stop the demonstration.  I have informed the City of Seattle and the Police Department there and they have no objection whats oever to a peaceful demonstration.  And so I am calling on all of you who believe in the right to associate, the freedom of _expression_ and right to be heard to join me outside the Convention Center (Seattle Sheraton Towers) on 4th September at 11:00 to hold placards that will send our message to the Ugandan and American public that there is a dictator in our midst and even America is not too far to run from the long arm of dictatorship.  My initial placards which were mistaken for rotten eggs
were about 3rd term, AIDS and peace in the North.  What I cannot say on that  panel, we can still say in a peaceful demonstration.  See you in Seattle...

Hi there,
In todays Red Pepper Daily tabloid published  an email from Anne Mugisha to the Reform Agenda calling upon them to mobilize people to  pelt President  Museveni with rotten eggs and hold anti govt placards in Seattle .The email was from "Anne Mugisha"<
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED] .
While i agree that we live in a free democratic society and people can lawfully hold political demonstrations ,this may embarass the UNAA organizer who gave Anne Mugisha a free bed & meal ticket to the Convention. You risk being misunderstood as having pre conceived this picketing! Obviously, this cannot stop H. E.  from coming but it may be the last UNAA meeting that enjoys the goodwill of the Government. Try to ensure that the situation does not become diplomatic disaster...muyinza okuswala! I have a meeting at State House today on another matter but if i have a chance i will gauge the mood of the presidential aides.
regds,
Andrew
