PADER DISTRICT: 4 KILLED IN AMBUSH
 General, Brief

Four people were killed in an ambush carried out yesterday afternoon by the rebels of
the "LRA (lordë Resistance Army)" in North Uganda. MISNA sources reported that the
rebels attacked a passing vehicle, killing all the passengers. Shortly after, a
vehicle with onboard some parishioners of Patongo (Pader district) passed through the
same location on return from Gulu city, where they went to attend the ordination last
Saturday of 4 new local priests, but were not harmed. A Ugandan military spokesman
yesterday reported the death of 4 civilians and injury of another 4 in an LRA attack
in the area of Palula, around 80km east of Gulu, main northern city of the nation. It
is unclear if it is the same episode, but however indicates the continued activities
of the rebels of Joseph Kony ?sanguinary founder of the LRA ?in the northern districts
of Uganda, despite repeated attempts by the armed forces of Kampala to stop them. For
18 years the LRA has been raiding and destroying villages and crops, striking out at
the civil population, forced to seek refuge in giant displaced camps, in which over a
million people are crowded in inhumane conditions.
