KAMPALA - Cultural leaders have blamed Buganda for the Cabinet proposal presented this week that would give MPs the power to unseat traditional leaders. Leaders from Bunyoro, Tooro and Teso claim that Bugandas demand for federo has provoked government officials into suggesting a new governmental reorganisation that would make kings, like all other official leaders, removable from office. Justice Minister Janet Mukwaya presented the Cabinet White Paper to Parliament on Tuesday, which proposed that a traditional leader should be subject to the constitution, and if he violates it, Parliament could take him out of office. The recommendations are yet to be debated by parliament. The speaker of Tooro Kingdom, Rev Kloris Kyarimpa said he was 100% sure that Buganda was responsible fpr the proposal about unseating Kings. He said, The constitution spells out well that Kings are outside politics in the country, but Buganda crossed the line and their agitation has made the government take that position. |
