PARLIAMENT - Several Members of Parliament yesterday said President Museveni has become increasingly critical of the United States of America because it is strongly opposed to the third term.
"Americans have already indicated they are not supporting his bid to come back as a presidential candidate in the year 2006," Lubaga South MP Ken Lukyamuzi said.

"He (Museveni) is realising now following recent remarks by the German Ambassador, Dr Alexander Muhlen, that Germany would not support any arrangement that will not give opportunity to other parties to rule in 2006," Lukyamuzi said.
Museveni's second and last five-year term ends in 2006. He could however get a third term should Parliament vote to remove presidential term limits.
The President on Tuesday admitted he blindly supported the United States-led invasion of Iraq.

He is quoted as saying, "I supported the Ameri cans in Iraq, but I didn't even know what they were fighting for.''
Mr Reagan Okumu (Aswa County) said Museveni is critical because of too much pressure America is putting on him to retire in 2006.
"I suspect it is because of frustrations over the third term.
He has become a friend to Mugabe and he thinks he will do things the Mugabe way and keep himself in power," Okumu said.

Museveni recently backed Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe, for seizing white farms in Zimbabwe and giving them to landless blacks.
However MPs, Yeri Ofwono (Tororo Municipality), Capt David Matovu, James Kakooza (Kabula), Mike Ssebalu (Busiro East), Steven Chebrot (Tingey) and Steven Basaliza (Burahya ) supported Museveni.

They said the country would be under threat if the Sudanese President Omar Bashir was closer to Iraq which was said to have weapons of mass destruction.
Yeri said the president could have realised America had a different agenda.
Kyadondo South MP, Isa Kik ungwe said, "This is one sign to indicate that the man is growing old. America does not support his third term bid. He does a lot of things wrongly and he does not want to listen," he said.
Rainer Kafire (Kibuku), simply said things are not going the way Museveni wanted and he is now regretting.

Elijah Okupa (Kasilo) said the president is looking for new allies to support his third term because he is loosing out with president George Bush.
"It is the reason why he went to Zimbabwe," Okupa said.
Morris Ogenga Latigo (Agago) said Museveni should learn that a one-man decision is dangerous.
"He may even regret on his decision of kisanja (third term) because it will cause him many problems in future," Latigo said.

Nandala Mafabi (Budadiri West) too said Museveni should drop the idea of standing again because he may regret the way he is doing now.
Cecilia Ogwal (Lira Municipality) said it is dangerous for a head of state to solely make decisions on matters that affect the whole country.

"We cautioned Museveni on this matter in Parliament. He wants to rule this nation as one man. Because he is surrounded by the army, he does not mind what happens to poor Ugandans," Ogwal said.
Salamu Musumba (Bugabula South) said Museveni sho uld learn to accept collective wisdom.

Theodore Sekikubo (Lwemiyaga) said this should be a lesson for the president to start listening to the legislative arm because they warned him and he did not listen.
Charles Angiro (Erute North) said the president is ashamed and wanted to tap America's money.

In Munyonyo at the closure of the Small Arms conference, president Museveni attacked the western powers for dividing Africa.
In the same conference, he blamed the Darfur conflict on the West saying they introduced a lot of religions in the country that led to the conflict.
On Independence day, he said he was disturbed by people he called "our friends who think that Africans were still fools".
