MPs should vote well
Each one of us is constitutionally obliged to ensure that we live in peace and harmony. We all know that there is a strong, but rather selfish, move by some individuals to ensure that all Ugandans are denied that inalienable right by manipulating and manoeuvring the constitutional review process to entrench a dictatorship in our constitution.
Despite the calls and all efforts made by different personalities, organisations and to some extent, some foreign envoys, it is evident that we have evil forces fighting against these noble efforts.
Our veteran politician, Mr Bidandi Ssali has done his part boldly, and without fear, he looked in the face of his old friend and warned him and others against manipulating the constitution to give President Museveni a 5th term. (See: Bidandi issues anti-3rd term document. The Monitor, October 26).
From the young ones li
ke the
respectful but aggressive and articulate Andrew Mwenda of The Monitor, the old men and women- civilians and accomplished soldiers, that have been President Musevenis friends and colleagues since childhood and who have been with him through the struggle to liberate this country from dictatorship; the Churchmen and women, up to some ordinary men and women like us.
The lawyers through their association have also added their voices as have done the very man, who, by the presidents appointment, collected and listened to all views and opinions of all Ugandans who were able to present them on how they want to be governed.
Despite all the above peoples efforts and the rest of the silent but frightened Ugandans, there is only one group of persons remaining, persons who call themselves Ugandans, and who claim to represent all of us who are crying out to have our constitution, and by extension, our country, saved from disastrous personal interest-driven-decisions.
This group was selected by the people of Uganda to save their country from personal interests-driven decisions and only serve for GOD AND OUR COUNTRY UGANDA and we all call them Honourable Members of Parliament. These are the ones to deal the last blow to the emerging evil forces of dictatorship.
As many Ugandans have said again and again, it is the honourable members of the House that have the key to a better Uganda.
It is not President Museveni. The latter has the resources to coerce, manipulate, intimidate, buy, sweet talk and promise heaven on earth. But the former have the two instruments to use.
One is the mandate of the people who elected them and, two, their ballots.
As long as they are determined to see a better Uganda tomorrow, they can make us have it through; first of all ensuring that the conventional and most democratic secret ballot system is adopted, and secondly; by voting not with their stomachs, but with their social
conscience.
So, over to you Honourable MPs. You either save us all, or we drown together and then, your oversize tummies stuffed with bribes gotten from our national coffers wont be of any use to you at all.
