The Indian state of Andhra Pradesh is looking for 40,000 to 50,000 hectares of land for an agricultural project that will cost about $100m, a senior adviser to the state, C.C Reddy, has said.
Reddy told Uganda Investment Authority officials recently that Ugandans, who will work on the farms will be trained in mechanised extensive agriculture.
"Cooperative societies will use local manpower, while infrastructure will be set up to implement the project," he said.
Reddy said productivity would be improved by using better crop varieties, planting systems and integrated nutrient management.
|
"We shall encourage use of organics, inorganics, bio-fertilisers, integrated pest management and mechanisation of all activities," he said.
Reddy said farmers would work as entrepreneurs and land owners, not as labourers.
