Police blocked an anti-third term rally organised by the Democratic Party supporters in the district on Saturday. The rally had been scheduled to take place at Kamusabi trading centre in Kayonza sub-county.
It was to be addressed by the DP National Treasurer and Kampala Mayor, Mr Ssebaana Kizito, and other party officials, Mr Muwanga Kivumbi and Damiano Lubega.

Police deployed at Kamusabi on Saturday morning and ordered the organisers, led by Mr John Kiberu, to leave the venue. Security personnel in civilian clothes had also been deployed at the venue on the eve of the rally. Some DP supporters wearing clothes decorated with party colours fled the venue.

The District Police Commander, Mr James Tarushoke, told The Monitor in his office on Monday that he had been directed by the Resident District Commissioner, Ms Margaret Balyehuki, to break the rally because DP has not registered as a political party. "Until they register, they will not be allowed to hold rallies," Tarushoke said.
Balyehuki vowed to stop any unregistered political party from holding a rally.
