Kampala is a geological phenomenon- of catastrophic proportions The best solution for >Kampala if this city is NOT going to face massive landslides is to re-locate Bwaise, parts of Ndebba, Nalukolongo, Natete town along the railway line and turn them into a huge commercial wetland and relocate the people here - then excessive water from the Industrial area and Nakivubo channel can be redirected into both these wetlands. Bwaise (Lubigi) wetland was a huge absorbent of water from the Golf course, from Kololo , Naguru, Ntinda hills across Kamwokya road to Mulago and left water flow through Lubigi northwards to the dry and thirsty lands of Luwero.
This is no more thanks to KCC planners. The same should be done of water now flowing southwards into Lake Victoria, from Rubaga hills, Najanankumbi, Old Kampala, Makerere, Nakasero, Mutundwe, Lubiri, Ndebba, Namirembe, that should be left (was shared) to flow north wards to River Mayanja, through Nalukolongo wetland, implying the industrial area designed by the British into the wetland at Nalukolongo should even be widened and some industries here relocated to Namanve. A world class Golf course here can make a lot of commercial sense along the railway line. Combined with a thriving sport fishing, mammal and bird sanctuary of huge commercial value. Both these water/wetland corridors can be redesigned as world bird sanctuary, zoological and botanical gardens (whatever one wants) with immediate agency to employ those who will lose in event of relocation. And construction of buildings into these two corridors is not only commercial and economically unviable but in the long run has to be augmented with support pillars not to sink down below. Thos who have tried building here can tell you the cost � or what they have done is to elevate land above flooding levels! Idiotic isn�t it? Otherwise - KCC should bless itself for a disaster of catastrophic proportion, when Mulago, or Lubiri, Mutundwe, Old Kampala and any other hill will one god rainy day end up into the valley below possibly burying Ndebba, Nalukologo, Nakivubo Kisenyi, Kamwokya or Makerere, Nakulabye hill ending up in the valley in between.
