Mumbere gets 7-day ultimatum over title

By John Odyek
THE anti-Obusinga group led by Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, the national political commissar, have given a seven-day ultimatum to Charles Wesley Mumbere and the pro-monarchists to renounce their plans to establish a kingdom in Kasese and Bundibugyo districts.
Kiyongas group, which also includes state minister Dr Kamanda Bataringaya, warned that legal action would be taken against the Mumbere and his supporters if they do not renounce their plans.
Kiyonga said he represented popular opposition to the intentions of Mumbere. He said any claim to monarchism or kingship was governed by the Constitution.
You are no doubt aware that you, in the leadership of Mumbere in a drive to forge a kingdom and lay claim to monarchism/kingship, have repeatedly misrepresented yourselves as cultural leaders, whereas you are not, said a letter signed by Kiyonga on behalf of 14 other people.
The letter entitled notice of intention to sue was also copied to Bitangaro and Company Advocates.

Mumbere arrives tomorrow

EXPECTED: Mumbere

By John B. Thawite
Irema-Ngoma Charles Wesley Mumbere is expected to return from the USA tomorrow, his spokesperson, Godfrey Kabyanga, has said.
Kabyanga and Yolamu Mulima, the Rwenzururu Veterans Association chairman, have challenged those aggrieved by Mumberes kingship to go to court.
They were reacting to reports that the National Political Commissar, Dr Crispus Kiyonga, had threatened to sue the pro-monarchists.
Day and nigh drumming, singing, dancing and chanting is the order of the day in Kasese as the region anxiously waits for the Omusinga (Crown Prince).
Kabyanga featured on Messiah and Grace FM radio stations to welcome the Irema-Ngoma.
In Kasese town, dust-raising dances were staged on some streets with the latest in the busy Shauri Yako market area.
The Rwenzururu anthem, which had for decades been shelved, has frequently been aired on Messiah and Grace radios.
The sources said three buses were lined up to ferry entertain ment and other groups to welcome Mumbere from Entebbe Airport.
Security sources yesterday said mumbere would arrive at around 7:15am and stay in Kampala until December 30 during which time he is expected to meet President Yoweri Museveni.
They said the Government would provide security for his return.
Mumbere is the heir to his late father, Isaya Mukirania, the leader of the Rwenzururu Freedom Movement, which liberated the Bakhonzo/Bamba from the post-independent Toro Kingdom.
