THE Lord�s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel chief Joseph Kony and his deputy, Vincent Otti, are still interested in cease-fire talks with the government, mediator Betty Bigombe said yesterday (Saturday).
Appearing on Capital Radio�s Capital Gang talk show, Bigombe said that she had spoken to Kony and Otti on phone and they were keen on the peace talks.
She said the LRA leaders were still consulting on a ceasefire agreement proposed by the government recently and added that if this agreement is signed it will pave way for a full peace deal between the rebels and the government.
Bigombe said she was working on a strategy for the peace talks, drawing the number of delegates to represent each side.
Meanwhile army spokesman Maj. Shaban Bantariza has accused opposition politicians of undermining government�s efforts to broker a peace deal with the rebels.
Speaking on KFM�s Hard Talk programme, Ba ntariza said, �Some members of the opposition are saying to Kony, do not come out until 2006 because if he comes out now President Museveni will get his kisanja (third term) on a clean slate.�Published on: Sunday, 9th January, 2005
