It would have been the definitive climax of the 19-year-old insurgency had the ceasefire agreement between the Lords Resistance Army and government been signed on December 31, 2004.

His Highness Rwot David Onen Achana II

Nonetheless, there will soon be another reason to live for in Acholi; the coronation of the Paramount Chief of Acholi, His Highness Rwot David Onen Achana II.

President Museveni is to preside over the ceremony at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu this Saturday.

Gulu LC-V chairman Lt. Col. Walter Ochora has already dispatched invites for the occasion, which will also see the Acholi Council of Chiefs and Elders inaugurated.

The President has in the last 12 months given his stamp of approval to a number of cultural leaders, including the Kooki traditional leader Kamuswaga Apollo Ssansa Kabumbuli II and the Isabaruuli Constantine Mwogezi Butamanya.

Still awaiting his approval, however, is Bakonzo Iremangoma Charles Wesley Mumbere who recently flew into the country from the United States, not to mention Ankoles John Barigye.
