A Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) soldier was killed and four others wounded when the military truck they were travelling in was hit in an ambush by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels on Saturday.
About seven rebels ambushed the truck in Katum, Padibe East sub-county in Lamwo, about 23 kms north of Kitgum town.
But the truck ran through the ambush.
The UPDF 5th Division Spokesman, Lt. Martin Nsengiyunva, said the 91st Battalion Commander whom he did not name was in the truck.
He said the commander was returning from operations to Kitgum town when the truck ran into the ambush at 7.30pm.
"The commander had taken food to the UPDF soldiers in operations against the LRA at the Sudan border and they were returning to Kitgum town when they ran into the ambush," Nsengiyunva said.

He said the wounded soldiers were taken to Kitgum Hospital.
He said the UPDF could not pursue the rebels immediately because it was dark.
