Kabakas move in appointing members of other races is great, but a trifle too late!

SIR I wish to join other Ugandans in thanking Kabaka Ronald Mutebi for his wise decision to include Ugandans of other races in the kingdoms cabinet.

This can only go a long way to prove that the king cares for all his subjects regardless of their race, tribe, religion, sex and creed. The fact that the Banyala finally found one of their own in the kingdoms cabinet, even though it came as a result of some recent pressures, must be highly commended.

How I wish one or two Baruuli were also appointed into the kingdoms cabinet. Perhaps this would act as a conciliatory gesture to the aggrieved Baruuli who got finally driven into installing their own cultural leader after feeling neglected for too long by Mengo.

Lastly, I would like to appeal that in future, the Kabaka also consider appointing into his cabinet Ugandans from other ethnic groups who, for historical reasons have found themselves living for several generations in Buganda.

I am refer ring to minority groups like the Bahima who predominate Sembabule, the Nubians in Bombo, the Bakenyi and others.

CORRIDORS OF POWER

Mutebi wants views
Kabaka Ronald Mutebi II of Buganda (right) is apparently unhappy about some of his subjects being mum on pertinent issues that affect their ebyaffe. While on his tour of Makindye Division recently, the king stressed the need for people to voice their views. His remarks were prompted by Mayor Ssebaana Kizito who said Buganda should be granted federo because it is the only way to develop Buganda. Some of us have these thoughts that concern and pain us but we just keep quiet. You should be vibrant because its good when someone comes and talks his mind, Mutebi said as the subjects cheered.

UPC registering
Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) is now prepared to use all tricks to ensure that it gets the partys registration certificate. While dispatching delegates to gather signatures from party members upcountry, the party sent three different people with three separate registration forms. The three delegates travel led from Kampala by separate means, but to the same places, and returned via different routes. The registration forms were then kept in three different locations until they were taken to the registrar of parties last week. Reason: We didnt want to take chances; if one batch of forms was stolen or robbed, we would still have been able to register, said one UPC faithful.

Mukwaya happy
After the hue and cry against her over the White Paper, Hajat Janat Mukwaya (right) has sighed with relief following her shift from the Ministry of Justice to that of Agriculture. At a meeting with the agricultural board in Entebbe last Thursday, a beaming Mukwaya praised the Lord for surviving the White Paper pressure. I thank God that I was successful in gender, and I have been successful in justice and constitutional affairs... I dont think agriculture will fail me. She hopes her new brief will help her retain the Mukono womens parliamentary seat. I am committed to do anyth ing in the agriculture sector so as to win the 2006
elections.

Makubuyas warning
Shortly before he was shifted from Education to Justice, Dr Khiddu Makubuya had vowed to fight against malpractice in education all over the country. He warned of no lenience for exam cheats, no gender tolerance for weak candidates who want science courses. We shall make sure we maintain integrity and merit in our education system, especially the science disciplines, he stressed.
