Army beefs up security at Karuma Bridge

SECURITY has been stepped up at Karuma Bridge following the arrest of a man suspected to be a member of the People�s Redemption Army (PRA) in Pakwach
recently. He was found with seven guns.
The Military police said it was directed by its commanders to ensure that every vehicle, luggage and person travelling from and to Kampala was
thoroughly checked to make sure that there were no arms.
The security checks involve proper identification of passengers.
The suspected member of the PRA was reportedly taking the guns to DR Congo when the security operatives at Pakwach Police were alerted and they
arrested him.
Acting army spokesman in the region Lt. Ronald Kakurungu said security checks at Karuma Bridge were normal.
�I feel the security boost at Karuma is good and the more we do it the better. We should not take chances on security,� he said.
He said security had been stepped up at Karuma to crack down on wrong elements who want to enter the country.
