ARUA - The army has, in a massive operation, excavated weapons, including over 4,900 loose ammunition buried in Kuru sub-county in Yumbe district.

Other weapons dug up on Friday included; five RPG bombs with one fuse, 14 anti-personnel landmines with 10 fuses, seven tortoise grenades and an anti-tank landmine.

UPDF Spokesman in West Nile, Lt. Anech Mubangizi, told The Monitor recently that the security operatives also unearthed 13 sub machine guns, an RPG optic sight, one Medium Machine Gun, 15 fully - loaded SMG magazines and eight empty ones.

The army said the weapon cache was fully wrapped in a nylon sack - buried in a hollow palm tree trunk and interred about 10 metres from the home of Mr Musa Zacharia.

Security operatives have since picked him as a custodian of weapons of the Peoples Redemption Army (PRA) rebel group.

Lt. Mubangizi said they got the clue to recover the arms from Capt. Brahan Driatre, who was a field Intelligence Officer and the Aide de Camp to ex-rebel chief, Maj. Gen. Ali Bamuze, during the liberation struggle.

Apparently, the NRM/O with it's sycophants, would like to convince perfectly rational thinking  Ugandans, that there exist a rebel force which operates with I hear five tortoise grenades ..what ever that is.. five Machine gun..one RPG optic sight.. 13 sbg machine gun!!..the regime really thinks rational thinking beings will believe their crap!!!

Driatre was arrested on Thursday over alleged links with PRA while Bamuze is the former over-all commander of the defunct Uganda National Rescue Front (UNRF) II rebel group that abandoned armed rebellion following a truce with the government in December, 2002.
