| KAMPALA � Following the formation of Kalangala Action Plan (KAP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and Sebaggala�s youth brigades, the Uganda Peoples Congress is also to set up its youth brigade.
"Self-defense is not a crime. If they attack us, we shall also defend ourselves; if they use guns, they will force us to acquire them," UPC Presidential Policy Commission boss, Dr James Rwanyarare told journalists last week at Uganda House. During the 2001 presidential elections, KAP under the leadership of presidential advisor on political affairs Maj. Roland Kakoza Mutale, was accused of torturing opposition supporters. Recently, President Yoweri Museveni commissioned 800 members of KAP to promote the Movement ideology in the run-up to the 2006 elections. In response, FDC promised to establish a youth brigade to counter KAP activities. The party's information coordinator, Mr Wafula Oguttu, told journalists last Monday that: "The FDC youth brigade will not allow KAP to beat them up." Dr Rwanyayrare said: "It will be worse, compared to 2006 if it is not solved." He urged the international community to intervene and prevent the training of KAP youth who he referred to as terrorists. |
