Don�t miss ceasefire, Bigombe urges rebels

GULU - The chief peace negotiator, Ms Betty Bigombe, at the weekend made a passionate appeal to the rebels to quickly sign the memorandum of understanding to move the peace process forward.
Speaking on 102 Mega FM, Bigombe warned the LRA that time was running out. She urged the rebels not to let Tuesday's deadline pass "without us doing something." The ceasefire expires at 7.00 am on Tuesday.
"You should do something to show that you are interested in dialogue.
Don't let the community lose hope and don't let the government and the international community think you are not interested in dialogue," she said in Luo.
Bigombe commended the LRA for co-operating with her team so far but
observed that the only obstacle in the process was signing the memorandum.
"We want you to sign the document to end hostilities with the government, increase mutual relationship with the gove
rnment
and the community."
Bigombe said her team was ready to move into the LRA camp anytime, even at night to help them out with some of the things they may not understand about the memorandum.
She said she had sourced some lawyers, who were ready to help. Bigombe's military adviser, Col. Chris Wilton from Britain, said although he was set to leave military service in January, his government requested him to stay to help Bigombe on behalf of the international community because of the importance the world puts in the peace process.
"I represent the international community to demonstrate international support to bring the situation to a peaceful solution. We are ready to meet you (LRA) anytime, anywhere because we have a standby helicopter to ease our movements," Wilton said, directly appealing to the rebels.
