The politics of intimidation approach is no longer viable in Uganda, Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has said. "The time is up for those who want to instil fear in the population. By the grace of God, we shall change the situation," Muntu declared.
The former army commander, now the co-ordinator for mobilisation for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) said this at the party's weekly briefing in Najjanankumbi on Monday.

"FDC wants to sensitise the public about their rights. A free and fair election is not a favour from anyone but their right," Muntu said.
He said through mobilisation Uganda would have a smooth transition.
"Don't expect to be liberated from outside. This is the time for the people to be liberated, not for others to say we liberated them," he said.
Referring to the bush war experience, Muntu said he was stunned that some people had never realised that the population doesn't owe them anything.
"While in the bush, we were protected by the population. But some of my colleagues have failed to understand that," Muntu said.
Flanked by the party Spokesman, Mr Wafula Oguttu, Muntu said their major focus was to mobilise the population on how to deal with fear of what would happen with a change in governance.

"We want people to freely express their will through the ballot but NRM wants them to vote out of fear. We will over-stretch them. Ugandans should know what sort of regime this one is," Muntu said.
Wafula said if President Yoweri Museveni stayed in power, many people would die. Mr Reagan Okumu said Museveni was becoming expensive to maintain in terms of human blood. "Ugandans have been sacrificed to keep him in power" Okumu said.
