UPC Registration Excites Obote

SINGING and chanting party slogans, the Uganda People's Congress (UPC) yesterday launched campaigns to popularise the party after getting registered.
The campaigns were directed by the party's exiled president, Dr. Milton Obote.

Dr. James Rwanyarare, who heads the presidential policy commission, said Obote was pleased with the registration and directed that UPC goes to the grassroots.
Party leaders and loyalists Henry Mayega, Rwanyarare's deputy, commission member Kilama Omoro, members Sheikh Anasi Kinyiri and Makerere University don Oweyega Afunaduula sang party songs at the weekly press briefing at Uganda house.
"The party president Dr. Milton Obote has directed that UPC climbs every hill and goes to every village and reaches all the people, young and old and no doubt we shall do that," Rwanyarare said.
He added, "Our campaigns have started now. tomorrow we shall be on the streets in our colours. we are now a legal entity and we are going to spread out to the whole country. we have enough manpower to address twenty rallies in one day," he said.
Rwanyarare said they would hold a national delegates' conference to elect new leaders later in the year.

He warned that UPC would use violence to resist any forces that would try to block their campaigns.
He particularly directed his warning to Kalangala Action Plan that is run by presidential adviser Maj. Kakooza Mutale.
