The UPDF has concluded a two-month vigorous exercise dubbed Rolling Thunder on the use of armoured tanks in warfare.
The closing ceremony was witnessed by Presid-ent Yoweri Museveni at the Karama Armoured Warfare Training School in Mubende district.
The exercise brought together a battalion of armoured tank crews under Major Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Thunderous bombshell and fire from the tanks and artillery characterised the two-hour demonstration exercise on Saturday.
Museveni was thrilled by the accuracy of the fire shootouts at the targets.
The function was, however, temporarily disrupted by a down pour, which began before Musevenis speech.
Museveni said the UPDF would train the army to specialise in night battle operations using modern weapons.
He said the army would recruit graduates and senior six leavers into the air force and the mechanised regiment.
Museveni said whereas it is
not
easy for the army to have all their requirements, basic ones like food, shelter, equipment, drugs and clothes would always be catered for.
