The Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia was found shot in his apartment in the Addis Ababa Hilton, the Foreign Ministry announced shortly after 12:30 Wednesday afternoon. Doron Grossman was found by his bodyguard on Tuesday. His situation has been described as critical. The Foreign Ministry is working to bring him back to Israel for medical treatment. A team headed by Foreign Ministry Deputy General for Africa, Miriam Ziv, is slated to leave Wednesday for Addis Ababa to investigate the situation. In an interview with The Jerusalem Post earlier this month in Addis Ababa, Grossman talked about Falash Mura aliya. "This aliya process is orderly, well coordinated and done with the full cooperation of the Ethiopian government," Grossman said, just days before he left his post in Ethiopia to become the next ambassador to South Africa. "It is being done in an extremely constructive and friendly atmosphere." Ultimately, the success of Israel's Ethiopian aliya will rest not on how good a job Israel does bringing the immigrants, but how well it absorbs them, Grossman said.
