Five internally displaced women were last week shot dead by the army in the war-ravaged district.
The shooting occurred on April 18 at Mucwini sub-county in Chua county, about 15kms east of Kitgum town.

The women had gone fishing in a nearby Aringa river. While they were returning to their camp, the UPDF soldiers shot them and they died on the spot.
Four of their colleagues sustained serious bullet wounds while one could not be accounted for by the time of filing the story.
The injured were admitted to Kitgum Hospital.
The shooting provoked angry reactions from the residents in Mucwini who accused the army of rampant killings.
The Army Spokesman in the north, Lt. Tabaro Kiconco, said the soldiers had mistaken the women for LRA rebels.
|
"The circumstances under which the people were killed was that our forces mistook them to be LRA rebels since they had gone far from the internally displaced people's camp," he said.
He said the district security committee had visited Mucwini the previous day and advised the civilians against venturing far from the camp.
