Museveni summons Cabinet to Fort Portal
By Grace Matsiko

FORT PORTAL - President Yoweri Museveni On Sunday summoned about 12 ministers to Fort Portal for a special session.

The President is camped in Fort Portal for his tour of mid-western Uganda. Sources in State House said the meeting is expected to discuss the referendum motion due in Parliament this week and service delivery by the ministries.

The source said the President summoned the ministers following a public outcry at rallies he addressed in the region last week.
The government spokesman and Information state minister, Dr Nsaba Buturo, could not be reached for a comment yesterday but the Presidential Press Secretary, Mr Onapito Ekomoloit, confirmed the meeting.

"This is a routine Cabinet meeting," Onapito said in Fort Portal. "Cabinet sessions are closed ones, " he added when asked about the agenda of the meeting.

The ministers began arriving in Fort Portal yesterday morning for the session expected to begin late in the evening. According to a source in State House, about 39 ministers are expected to attend the special session at the State Lodge.

The Movement Vice-chairman, Alhaj Moses Kigongo and the National Political Commissar, Dr Crispus Kiyonga, are attending.

The ministers were tight lipped about the agenda while others said they will get to know it from the meeting.

One of the ministers described the meeting as urgent given that the Cabinet rarely sits over the weekends.

The government last week banned ministers from travelling abroad until the debate on the constitutional amendments is finalised.

The government's directive announced by the Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, came after the referendum motion presented by the Deputy Justice Minister, Mr Adolf Mwesige, suffered a set back after the government failed to raise the necessary number to pass it.
