THE northern UPDF intelligence coordinator, Col. Charles Otema Awany, has warned the soldiers against uprooting cassava from the gardens of people living in camps in Coo Pee and Lukodi in Bungatira sub-county, Gulu district.
The Bungatira LC3 secretary for women, Margaret Odoki, accused the soldiers of up-rooting their cassava. Coo Pee camp accommodates 33,368 people, out of whom only 22,000 have access to World Food Programme rations. Odoki said the camp was hard hit by starvation and shortage of water.
Otema said it was wrong for soldiers who should protect the property of civilians to steal their cassava.
