MBARARA -- The diocesan secretary of Ankole diocese, Rev. George Katungi has advised leaders to hand over power when their terms of office expire instead of looking for excuses. Please hand over instruments of power when your terms of office expires because leadership is not a privilege but a service which one must give up at a given time and must be extra careful to avoid causing trouble, he said. He was speaking at a the swearing in ceremony of Bishop Stuart University student's guild council at Mbarara High School on May 12. Quoting from the bible he said, "--- a bad messenger causes trouble but a good envoy brings peace." He hailed the outgone guild councilfor itsb performance and handing over power peacefully. "I wish this spirit could be adopted by the political leaders of this country when their time comes because this would set a precedent for the young generation," he said. The outgoing guild boss Mr David Agaba appealed for unity among the students and members of staff. He hailed the administration for coming up with a guild constitution and enhancing good leadership. He however said the institution was currentlyt faced with challenges of limited access to information by students and proper representation of students in the university senate |
