QUEENS: The Nnabagereka of Buganda Sylvia Nagginda (L) consults Tooros Queen Mother Best Kemigisha during the fundraising ball.

It was after the stroke of midnight that the Nabagereka of Buganda Sylvia Nagginda led her guests to the floor for the Nnabagerekas ball on Saturday. Swinging to sounds of Shania Twains Always and Forever, the Nabageraka paired with brother-in-law Price David Wasajja, flanked by Tooro queen Mother Best Kemigisha and Dr. William Kalema. Capt. Francis Babu and wife Margaret Zziwa, the Wavamunnos and other guests danced away to crown what was a fundraising dinner dance for the Nnabagereka Development Trust.

The evening drizzle saw many of the guests turn up slightly behind schedule dragging the function to start over two hours later. With most tables labelled reserved, and others with company labels, the Victoria ballroom at Speke Resort Munyonyo gradually filled. Conspicuously absent even after booking two tables were staff of MTN Uganda; none except one showed up

All smartly clad in their evening best, the guests were treated to a brief background of the Trust by its secretary Ms Judy Kamanyi before an introduction of the Trusts executive committee was made.

The dinner was a sumptuous buffet washed down by a vast choice of drinks from rich wines to water. After dinner, Capt. Babu exhibited auctioning skills outmatching those required for selling a fridge in Iceland. He not only sold a pencil drawing for Shs2.5 million to Umar Mandela of City Tyres, but also managed to raise over Shs 50million in cash and pledges.

This kind of generosity can only be attributed to the altruism evoked by the Nnabagerakas words, By giving your support to the Trust tonight you are contributing to creating a nation in which every boy and girl is loved and cared for equally, every woman is treated with respect and dignity, and every family has the hope of a strong and stable future.
