Armed robbers resume terror attacks in the city

IN what appears to be a resurgence of armed robberies in Kampala, four people have been gunned down in eight such incidents in two weeks.
The victims were robbed of their property and the thugs have not been arrested.

The victims include Member of Parliament for Okoro county, Mr Simon D'Ujanga, whose car and mobile phone were grabbed by robbers at gunpoint recently. He was not killed.
A Korean expatriate was gunned down in Entebbe and a Briton was recently held hostage for hours by gunmen.

Arua businessman Rignor Omondi was shot dead. A headmaster and a student in Mukono have also been shot dead. In all the incidents, the gunmen were reportedly dressed in military uniform.

The Police Spokesman, Mr Assuman Mugenyi, admitted there has been increasing incidence of armed robberies, but said the police have inadequate manpower and are constrained by poor equipment to counter such armed crime.

The public needs to appreciate the efforts of the 14,000 police personnel who are supposed to protect 28 million people, Mugenyi told the Daily Monitor.
