Mr. Kipenji:

Are you blind or cross-eyed? In my note I gave you three sources of information about the arms myth you UPC diehards like to believe in like gospel.

So, why do you keep yapping about my relying on the work of one man? Not that it is no enough to indict you murderous hero -- given Ibingira's position!

Remember, your knowledge of Obote is based on the banalities he spewed on an occasional rally, and newspaper articles.

Ibingira, on the other hand, was an insider with a much more intimate knowledge of the devil, having been his confidant, Attorney General, Minister of Justice, Secretary General of UPC, etc.

Look, it is ok to admit to the world that you were duped and suckered into accepting that monster's ploy as facts, after all you were on the fringes. The ploy was intended to that so you would lend Obote your undying support. But such is your hate for the Baganda that you choose to accept lies as facts.

Are you simply gullible or just too ashamed to admit that you were snookered?

Incidentally, if you still think that I am relying on one source, try the much less known book by John B. Agami The Roots of the Political Crisis in UgandaThis chap was from the North so you should have little trouble with the veracity of his account, especially since he was in the Uganda Army.

I don't know what kind of access you have to libraries or how motivated you are to bother visiting one. In any case there are quite a few articles on Obote and his politics in journals - political science, history especially those on Africa. If nothing else, make some effort to get hold of issues of Uganda Argus, Transition and the like.

(I know you automatically consider Sekanyolya, Musizi, etc being Luganda publications were biased against that ogre you mindlessly adore).

Fair enough?

btw: what do you say about the Bukedde article? Or is it, too,  discountable out of hand because Julia Nabatanzi is relying on Ibingira?

In all this holering and yakking, you have actually missed the point.
Nobody doubts Ibingira's having existed. That would be tantamount to
apostasy.
What I simply requested you to be cognizant of is that in the intellectual
world where you want to belong, most of your collegues do not just rely on
the works of one man to make it the hallmark against which other opinions
are to be compared or judged.
So your rant about what you think Obote is,if based on this premise is of no
substance.
Lastly being a UPC or not does not in anyway demean the depth of analysis that
one should engage in.I personally do not subscribe to the near parochial analysis
that you are teetering to.
Thank you.

Mr. Kipenji,

Like you, Mwenda is a UPC, and like you facts are his biggest problem. You'all (UPC) can’t seem to be able to grasp a simple truth: Obote is an unbelievably bloodthirsty mass murderer who has committed horrendous crimes against humanity, thanks to your blind support of him.

I make no apologies for using the words of his one time confidant, the late Grace Ibingira, to expose the real Obote. Ibingira's books are there to be read by all who want to know what Ibingira's testimony is.

In the matter of arms supposedly imported by the Late Muteesa II for the supposed overthrow of your hero's government not only did I give you what Ibingira knew of the affair. It is common practice in courts of law to get a co-conspirator, ex-spouse, former friend, etc to testify against his buddies. This is exactly Ibingira did for Uganda. He exposed this power junkie, Obote, for exactly what he is: a nefarious monster.

I also gave you an article that appeared independently in the New York Times, which corroborates the fact that the arms myth was cooked up by one Bob Astles.

There is a third source if you care to pursue the matter: Muteesa II wrote about the matter in his book -- independently of Ibingira -- recall, Ibingira was rotting in Luzira Maximum Security Prison -- courtesy of your hero Obote, when Muteesa's book was released.

There are many, many, credible witnesses against Obote (-- including Obote himself but that is a subject for another day).  How can anyone forget the Panda Gari Scanias that terrorized people roaming Kampala and its environs during Obote II?

Here is another testimony against Obote, and it appeared in Bukedde on Sunday June 26, 2005:

the LDP to misinform and disinform Kenyans.
Fortunately in the latter case the speaker of the Kenyan assembly exposed the hypocrisy
some non performing politicians and the press are using to under develop Kenya and now
the said MPs are drawing out swords demanding the Speaker resign. Why:because he said the
truth and nothing but the truth about who and what these dishonest dishonourable members really are.
For Uganda, while Mwenda continues to lull Ugandans with much verbal diarhoea that leads to
nowhere,we shall continue to be  mis informed. That is the tragedy.Flash headlines and topics to be discussed but only is and was is the reality.

The article is too sweeping to form tenable basis

Musamize, lets' get back to logic if at all there is such a thing still left
in many of us.
If it is true that Obote is a monster and nefarious as you choose to baptize him
could you logically explain why to this day,he is still alive and well and yet those good
fellas in your lexical definations have long departed this world?
True intellectuals world wide do not go about gleefully quoting the works of what one man
whose ambition got truncated wrote about another except the myriad of quasi severely
dehydrated ones we read from on this fora.
Please try to subject your author's work to a multitude of peer review before using it as the
benchm ark of what is.
Soon or later you'll find your discourse relegated to the dustbin of putird analysis where it
is unfortunately veering to.
Thank you

I think the contact's name was Kagata Namiti. The revolution is infamous for eating its children.

Some of Kayira's men -- then allied with the NRA, were gunned down by the NRA, in cold blood, just before enrering Kampala.

It is said that many officers (and their hapless bodyguards) have been killed in Northern Uganda by elements of the UNLF, and their murders blamed on "Kony".

btw:
The grape vine has it that toward the end of Obote II, Muwanga (PM) story worked day and night (apparently with or at the same time as Oyite Ojoko) to overthrow Obote. PM's bayekera were somewhere in Mpigi.

Unfortunately for PM, the Baganda had long abandoned and disowned him by the time he realized what a monster and nefarious Obote is. Ibingira realized this earlier and after a much briefer association.

How NRA plotted death of Maj. Katabarwa

With Andrew M. Mwenda

It is mid-1999 and a friend from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) has come to me with a strange document dug up from the archives of army headquarters at Lubiri in the late 1980s.

It is a confession that the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) extracted from Maj. Sam Katabarwa, one of the leading commanders of rebel National Resistance Army (NRA), in early 1985.

According to Katabarwa, he had come to Kampala on a peace mission to meet Vice President and Minister of Defence, Paulo Muwanga through a one Capt. Gata Namiti.
However, Katabarwa confessed, there was no agreement among the leadership of the rebel NRA on seeking a peaceful end to the conflict.

Katabarwa confessed that the late 1984 UNLA offensive in Luweero led by a one Col. Ogole had wrecked havoc on the morale and capacity of the rebel group, and a significant faction within NRA wanted to negotiate a peace.

Ho wever, the possibility of negotiated settlement sparked off an ethnically biased confrontation within the ranks of the NRA, Katabarwa confessed. The Hima and Tutsi officers totally opposed negotiating with Milton Obote's government while the Baganda and Bairu from Ankole favoured peace. The debate was bitter and divisive, Katabarwa told UNLA, but at the end of it, it was agreed that peace be given a chance.

Rebel leader, Museveni seemed to favour the hard line position against negotiations, while at the same time giving a go-ahead to the attempt to establish contact with the Obote government - but only grudgingly, Katabarwa confessed. As leader of the pro-peace argument, Katabarwa was tasked to travel to Kampala where he would contact his former classmate, Namiti, and establish contact with Paul Muwanga, the centre pin of this scheme.

Katabarwa told his tormentors that as he left the bush to come to Kampala, the sufferings of the civilian population that was the majo r victim of the war hang on his head. Katabarwa was later killed; because apparently, someone inside NRA wanted him dead.

The purpose and effect of his death was to foil the peace plan. How?
I was later to learn that Katabarwa was killed through a collusion of some key NRA leaders with Paulo Muwanga. Reason?
The hard line elements within NRA wanted to discredit the argument for peace by projecting it as unworkable.

The only way to do this was to "cause" Muwanga and the UNLA to kill the peace envoy, a factor that would strengthen the case for continued war and weaken the one for a negotiated settlement.
