If any sisters are interested, I received the following from the Miss Africa pageant.  I don't ordinarily pass on stuff of this nature, but from all I have heard these folk are decent, for example they have eschewed the use of a swimming suit competition and they emphasize indigenous cultures of the respective countries on the continent.

Imagine Being Crowned Miss Africa International 2005 Don't Miss Out, Sign-up Soon! June 2005

You are entering one of the grandest hotels in Washington, D.C., the world's power center. Hordes of photographers swarm around you, trying to get just the perfect shot. The visiting head of state's chief of protocol sends someone to usher your entourage to your place near the high table. As you enter, all heads turn and the cameras flash incessantly. ...An hour later, you find yourself at the podium speaking to thousands about the place of the African woman of this millenium and how you fit in. As you return to your seat, hordes of business cards are handed to your manager and you overhear a television producer ask for an interview as soon as possible. As you open out your napkin to begin your meal, a group comes to your table to request a photo opportunity with you....You look around you, remembering the girl who dreamed of making a difference in the world but was not sure how to do so. You think about the time you doubted your academic workload would allow you to participate in the competition. But that was yestersday. Today you smile, standing on the uppermost pinnacle of your reign as MISS AFRICA INTERNATIONAL!
On June 21, Cynthia Kanema, Miss Africa International 2005, will introduce the entertainment segment of the awards gala which opens the Corporate Council on Africa's US-Africa Business Summit in Baltimore. Later during the week, Mayor Anthony William's office has invited her to visit one or two homeless shelters in Washington, D.C. Then ten of the Miss Africa International delegates will attend a state dinner for 16 African presidents on Thursday night, talk about recognition! After a luncheon at which President Bush will be speaking the following day, Loide Jorge, Miss Mozambique Int'l/Miss Talent/First Princess of the Miss Africa International pageant, will close the conference with the singing of the African national anthem and another song of her choice.
