Dear friends,
The GuluWalk is coming to Ottawa! On Sunday, July 31st, you'll have the chance to participate in this great initiative in support of the young 'night commuters' of Uganda.
The GuluWalk was started in Toronto by two 'ordinary Canadians' – Adrian Bradbury and Kieran Hayward – who were appalled to learn that e very night, over 40,000 children living in rural northern Uganda walk into the town of Gulu and other urban centres to sleep in relative safety and to avoid abduction by rebels in an ongoing, often ignored 19-year civil war. These 'night commuters' walk from as far as 12km away and make the return trek home every single day. The GuluWalk is raising awareness and money to support these courageous kids.
Every night in the month of July, Adrian and Kieran walk 12.5km from the east end of Toronto into the city centre to sleep outside and return home every morning at sunrise. They will have walked 775 km in the 31 days of July. On July 31 st, Gulu walks will be held all around the world - London, Munich, Boston, Edmonton – and right here in Ottawa. We are organizing the route and will have more details for you soon, but you can save the date now! The walk will start in the early evening and will be approximately 10km. (Unlike Adrian and Kieran, we'll only do the night walk and not the walk back in the morning.)
To learn more about the walks and about Uganda's night commuters, check out the excellent GuluWalk website – www.guluwalk.com . For any questions, or to let us know you are interested in joining the Ottawa walk, please email us at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or call 613-231-7076.You'll be hearing from us soon with more details on the route and starting time. Please circulate this email to friends and colleagues to spread the word!
Looking forward to walking with you on the 31 st,
Colleen and TommyOn 7/19/05, Peter-Rhaina Gwokto <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:Hello Colleen,We spoke this morning. Please accept my email address and future participation in all your endeavours.Sincerely,Peter-Rhaina Gwokto
