Is this to say that areas without kingdoms are not "dying slowly"? If so, then you and your friends should be celebrating since you believe that what is bad for Buganda is good for the rest of Uganda.

Are these Ugandans telling me about ethnicity? Man I thought I have lived in Canada long enough to know the problem of diversity, but these Ugandans are now educating us. No we need leadership, we nee respect of laws, we need to stop making political office an income source. We need nationalism.

Ignoring the relaity of ethnicity or sticking one's head in the sand about tribe is what is wrong.

I agree with Mr. Senyonjo: it should be embraced and celebrated. Not even brothers from the same womb are alike -- except, perhaps, for identical twins. One brother can be a bishop and the other a thief, murderer, etc.

Mr. Kyijomanyi,

Thank you for this timely interjection. There is a lot of hypocrisy regarding ethnicity in Uganda. Those that pretend to disregard it show otherwise once in power. They fill key positions either in the army or civil service with kinsmen, thus alienating others. That is one of the reasons why federalism is attractive in that regions that may not have one of their own in power need not be overly concerned since they can create many more meaningful economic opportunities closer to home through strong regional governments.

The number one beneficiaries of tribe/ethnicity are the elite anywhere, so do not be fooled that there is anything wrong with tribe/ethnicity. Ran as we may, it is part of our identity.  People be proud of your tribe/ethnicity. Cherish it. Celebrate it. Promote it.  Love it.  Be proud of it. Do not knock it. Just respect diversity.
