President Yoweri Museveni has said the army is willing to
offer a limited area of no operation to facilitate contact between Joseph Kony
and peace talks mediator Betty Bigombe, if the LRA rebel leader demonstrated
more seriousness.
Museveni was on Saturday hosting the US ambassador and
three European ambassadors at his Rwakitura home in Mbarara.
Museveni said the army had offered radio frequency
contacts for Kony to make contact with the Government, Bigombe or anybody that
he wishes to express his position, a statement from State House said.
He said the army operations were moving on well and that
Kony and a few remnants remaining with him will be dealt with or captured if
they do not talk peace.
Museveni said the Government would take more interest in
improving conditions in the internally displaced people's camps.
He said part of the solution is to encourage the people to
produce their own food and generate income to supplement relief
assistance.
Museveni introduced to the envoys the visiting first
Vice-President of Sudan, Lt. Gen. John Garang.
Garang assured the envoys that Sudan would give special
support to the UPDF to wipe out the LRA remnants in the shortest time
possible.
