THE Anglican Bishop of Bristol Diocese in England, Mike Anthea Hill, his wife and three other clergy, spent the weekend at Amuru internally displaced persons' (IDP) camp in Kilak, Gulu district.

Accompanied by the bishop of Northern Uganda Diocese, Nelson Onono-Onweng, Anthea confirmed 319 Christians.

Anthea said, "I have seen with profound sadness and taken with great concern the kind of suffering that Christians in northern Uganda have gone through these 19 years."

At a confirmation ceremony attended by over 30,000 Christians, Anthea was received by the Amuru Parish Priest, the Rev. Michael Anywar.

Anywar appealed to Bristol diocese to help the poverty stricken Amuru Christians construct a church.

He said their major problem was the 19-year-long conflict that has made their lives characterised by perpetual fear and death.
