I Didn't Mention Rwanda - Muntu
The Monitor (Kampala) September 10, 2005 Monitor Reporter Forum for Democratic Change chief national mobiliser Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu has categorically denied ever saying that Rwanda was an ally of the party. The name Rwanda did not come out of my mouth even once, Gen Muntu said on phone from the United States. He was reacting to our story on Thursday which reported him as saying that Rwanda and South Africa are FDC's allies while the party is working on depening relations with Kenya and Tanzania. What I said is that we are trying to build relations with Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa, the retired general clarified. I had been asked who our friends in the region are and I mentioned only those three countries. The general also said although he maintains that President Museveni cannot be trusted, he did not say that the DR Congo leader Joseph Kabila would not easily reconcile with him. However Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa, currently in the US, maintains that Uganda already has a report filed by an embassy official who attended the function at the Centre for Strategic Institute to the effect that Muntu made those remarks.
