THE Karimojong should be helped to understand that firearms are not a source of security but a tool for violence in the region, the defence state minister has said.
Ruth Nankabirwa said Karamoja was a delicate security area and was besieged by illegal small arms and light weapons.
She was on Tuesday closing a two-day regional workshop on the management of the proliferation of illegal small arms and light weapons.
In a speech read by James Mwanje, the deputy commissioner for Prisons, the minister said, Everyone there (karamoja) believes in firearms. They believe a firearm is an asset to protect them. They say this (firearm) is my father and my mother. We need to turn around the thinking that a firearm is a source of security.
The workshop at Speke Resort Munyonyo was organised by the Nairobi-based Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons. It drew delegates from the Great Lakes region.

There is no difference between Mucebeni and Iculi the the HARE. Ichuli the Hare was eventually caught in the act by Mr. Leopard!..Now you know were Kaguta is heading!!!!!!
On a serious note. citizens, I do not know how many times I have stated this; . Let me point out to those who will listen. The fact that there are so many light weapons in the Karamoja region of Eastern Uganda is directly linked to NRM policy of promoting violence in the region.
Every Ugandan ( although some may refuse to discuss it openly because of fear) know that the NRM military dictatorship over the years freely distributed light arms to different Karamojong fighting factions in the Region. Many more weapons were distributed to the so called Home Guards LDU e.t.c . the the region is now washed with weapons should come as no surprise to anybody..least of which members of the International community and the very NRM dictatorship which distributed the weapons to begin with.
Now when this woman called Ruth Nankabirwa, with a straight face looks at conference participants in a conference room while discussing the problem of small arms prevalence in the region, yet she is very much aware that the NRM regime has been instrumental in provided weapons to wanachee, it pretty much baffles our minds that members of the International Community and Ugandans can entertain such duplicity. But then again Ichuli the Hare will always play his tricks to the unsuspecting observer. At the end of the day, however, IChuli will be exposed for what exactly he is!!
