Church leaders in Sudan have resolved to seek the intervention of the UN peacekeeping force to end the war in northern Uganda and southern Sudan.
The leaders, under the Sudan Ecumenical Forum, urged Uganda to ensure that the northern war ended through peaceful means as was the case in Sudan.
They were concerned with the looming humanitarian crisis in Sudan triggered by a sense of urgency by the two million Africans in northern Sudan and another four million Sudanese refugees worldwide to return to their ancestral homes in the south.
The 75 participants from 21 countries in a three-day consultative meeting of Sudanese religious leaders and their partners from Europe and North America, regretted that the LRA war was likely to become a regional conflict.
The two-page communiqué handed to journalists at Hotel equatioria, read, "The LRA conflict is causing great suffering, destabilising southern Sudan and expanding to become a regional conflict."
