A second bad section is journalists who allow them selves to be a part of the story. I really hate those too. But here is a new one especially in case of Uganda journalism, When a population hate a government whether the leadership or a policy, they hate to see through the hate and critic the journalism, if a journalists writes bad against a president the population waves their hands. So you wonder what that journalist will write on a new government.
And I know it is very complex to understand but we need to remember that journalists are permanent in any nation they do not go away after a government leaves power. The moment we allow them to be the judges and jury we must expect them to go with old governments. And that is what nauseated me on Andrew Mwenda, is to show us that he absolutely knows that Uganda government killed John Garanga. That was plain stupid journalism, and as critical thinkers we must see through Museveni's failures and critic it.

I am sorry.

Subject: [rwandanet] Re: [rwanda-l] Rwanda: Journalist imprisoned for criticising popular tribunals

For some reason the reports of journalists being arrested are often made to sound like crimes against humanity. Perhaps it is time to start judging these arrests case by case. We have all seen good examples of shoddy journalism, the most recent being the case of Ugandan Press that have virtually killed all newsworthy Garang Death Probes by Investigative Journalists.

I still think Journalism is best at its fundamental definition: REPORTING NEWS....when a journalist assumes the role of a critic he also assumes the burdens that it comes with....its only fair.

Journalist imprisoned for criticising popular
tribunals

http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=14994

Reporters Without Borders today condemned the arrest
of Jean Léonard Rugambage of the fortnightly Umuco on
7 September, 10 days after he wrote an article
accusing certain popular tribunal judges in the
district of Ruyamba of corruption.

Police spokesman Deo Badege said he was arrested on
the orders of judges with the popular tribunals, known
as gacacas. After being held in a police station in
Gitarama province, he was transferred to the
province’s main prison on 12 September.

“It is unacceptable that a journalist should be thrown
in prison just for writing about the functioning of
the gacacas,” Reporters Without Borders said. “We also
deplore the lack of transparency surrounding his
arrest. He has not been told how long he is to be held
or when he will appear in court.”

The organisation added : “Coming on heels of the
imprisonment of Belgian missionary priest Guy Theunis
on 10 September, the news of Rugambage’s arrest has
increased our concern that Rwandan justice has become
much harsher.”

Umuco editor Bonaventure Bizumuremyi was interrogated
twice in early August after publishing articles
criticising the prosecution of President Pasteur
Bizimungu and accusing members of the police force of
embezzlement. He says he has continued to receive
telephone threats since then.
