THE Sudanese president, Omar el-Bashir, has proposed an urgent meeting of the Uganda and Sudan defence chiefs over operations to wipe out the LRA rebels.
Bashir made the proposal to President Yoweri Museveni through Sudanese foreign affairs minister Mustafa Osman Ismail, a State House statement said yesterday.
Ismail told Museveni in New York, US, that the Khartoum government was ready for action involving the SPLA to mount a joint operation against the LRA rebels in northern Uganda and southern Sudan.
Museveni recently asked the Khartoum government to allow the Ugandan army to pursue the LRA rebels deeper in Sudan but the request was turned down.
Museveni and Ismail also discussed trade relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the deputy chairman of the southern Sudan government, Reik Machar, has said the SPLA is launching a military offensive against the LRA to prevent the aggressions which were carried out in the area around Lanya, between Juba and Yei.
"The operation is only to repulse the aggression," Machar said.
