The Northern Uganda crisis is a global problem especially when it comes to the plight of children. In a continued effort to raise a global awareness about the suffering children of the Northern Uganda, Ten Los Angeles High Schools have organized a concert to raise a global awareness of the Northern Uganda situation not only among the students in Los Angeles but also in the entire United States. Ugandan Community Organization in California(UCOC) cordially invites you to join such an effort by attending the function.

SHARE THE LOVE: A YOUTH-PRODUCED CONCERT FOR THE CHILD SOLDIERS OF NORTHERN UGANDA

 

LOS ANGELES, CA February 5, 2006

 

The events of 9-11 and more recent disasters such as the Tsunami and Katrina have awakened young people to the inter-connectedness of the world. Todays youth are looking for ways to take action and make a difference one person at a time.

 

SHARE THE LOVE will promote a message that youth care about youth around the world and can do something about it.

 

SHARE THE LOVE is a concert and fundraiser organized for youth by youth from ten Los Angeles high schools on Saturday, March 4th, from 4:308:30pm at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood  located at 7021 Hollywood Blvd Los Angeles, CA  90028.

 

The kids will raise funds for the

rehabilitation of child soldiers at the Rachele Rehabilitation Center in Lira, Uganda through ticket sales ($12.00 pre-sale/ $15.00 at the door), a silent auction,and the promotion of dog tags ($15.00/piece), each engraved with the name of a child affected by the war.

 

RYAN DEVLIN (host of ET on MTV) will host SHARE THE LOVE.

 

Three high school bands will be featured, including THE OUTLINE.

(www.myspace.com/nosexjustdancing) and COLUMBIA. Special

guests include KAOS Project Blowed Youth Poetry Team, with original poetry and spoken word presentations.

 

SHARE THE LOVE will bring together youth from both the east and west side of Los Angeles to take a stand on the theme

of war and violence, a topic that has local and global relevance.

 

Participating schools include: Wildwood High School, New Roads High School, Palisades High School, Crossroads High

School, Archer School for Girls, Venice High School, Buckley High, Marlborough School, Harvard Westlake High

School, Oakwood High and Windward High.

 

The youth represent One Global Tribe

(www.OneGlobalTribe.org), a nonprofit organization that offers students and teachers, the tools and resources to

become aware of local and global issues and to make a difference.

The evening will launch The Name Campaign

(www.thenamecampaign.org), dedicated to raising awareness of the l9-year old con flict and its effect on thousands of

children.

To date, more than 1.6 million people in Northern Uganda have been displaced from their homes. An estimated 20,000 children as young as 5-years-old, have been abducted and forced to commit unimaginable war crimes. Kids want to help others. The best part about SHARE THE LOVE is that its is a youth-prompted reaction to an important issue thats easy to ignore because its on the other side of the world, says 11th grade Wildwood student, Martino Simcik.
